Dhaka Center

The inaugural opening of the AIBS office in Dhaka took place on 31 July, 2010. This event included members of the Embassy staff in Dhaka, AIBS fellows, members of the Government of Bangladesh, academic faculty from a host of Dhaka based institutions, and public intellectuals. Over 80 people attended, including a cross-generation of scholars from the country, an interdisciplinary profile of fields of inquiry represented, current faculty from Dhaka and Rajshahi Universities, artists, public intellectuals, and representatives of the American Embassy and the Government of Bangladesh. Participating as well were members of Dhaka based think tanks whose efforts provided important work on issues of relevance to our American scholarship awardees, and to the academic researchers who were also in attendance. The event was covered on radio, television, and in the newspaper.
